ASIC Product Test Engineer
Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Full Time
Hardware Engineering
Experienced
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and versatile ASIC Product Test Engineer with strong
expertise in the development and testing of Optoelectronic ICs, ideally SPAD-based devices.
This role is critical to driving New Product Introduction (NPI), ATE test development, and mass
production ramp-up of our SPAD IC products.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in product engineering and test
development, including experience with ATE platforms, yield analysis, production support, and
qualification processes, especially within automotive-grade environments. While a deep
understanding of SPAD or optoelectronic device behavior is preferred, the emphasis of this role
is on ensuring test coverage, robustness, and manufacturability of our IC products from
development through high-volume production.
As part of a dynamic start-up environment, this role requires adaptability, cross-functional
collaboration, and a hands-on mindset to take products from concept to market.
Key Responsibilities:
● NPI (New Product Introduction): Lead product engineering efforts from initial silicon
through mass production. Develop test and qualification strategies to ensure
performance, reliability, and yield targets are met. Work closely with OSATs and cross-
functional teams (design, process, test, and reliability engineering).
● ATE Development and Support: Develop, validate, and maintain ATE test programs
for SPAD ICs. Optimize test coverage, throughput, and yield performance. Support test
program bring-up and production correlation activities.
● Yield Analysis & Improvement: Analyze production test data to drive yield
improvements. Investigate low-yield lots, identify root causes, and implement corrective
actions. Work with fab, assembly, and test partners to ensure robust manufacturing
processes.
● Automotive Qualification: Drive the definition and execution of qualification plans in
compliance with AEC-Q100, ISO26262, and customer-specific requirements.
Collaborate with reliability engineers and test teams to implement qualification hardware
and test flows.
● Failure Analysis & Debug: Perform bench-level and ATE-based debug of production
and qualification failures. Guide root cause analysis efforts and implement solutions to
improve product robustness.
● Cross-Functional Engagement: Collaborate with design, applications, and systems
teams to translate product requirements into effective test strategies. Facilitate technical
discussions related to product and test readiness.
● Product Documentation: Create and maintain product-related documentation,
including test plans, qualification reports, data summaries, and production release notes.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a
related field.
● 5+ years of experience in IC product engineering, with a focus on optoelectronic devices
or SPADs.
● Hands-on experience with ATE and bench-level debugging tools and methods.
● Experience in yield monitoring, data analytics, and production ramp support.
● In-depth understanding of automotive qualification processes, including AEC-Q100.
● Familiarity with SPAD technologies and their application in LIDAR or imaging systems is
highly desirable.
● Proficient in data analysis tools (Python, JMP, or equivalent).
● Proficiency in data analysis and reporting using tools like Python, JMP, or equivalent.
● Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly Desirable Skills:
● Experience supporting OSATs for testing.
● Deep knowledge of SPAD operation and test challenges (e.g., DCR, LCR, etc.) is a plus.
● Exposure to LIDAR systems and optoelectronic IC integration.
● Proven experience on automotive qualification (i.e. AEC-Q100) of optoelectronic
devices, preferably SPAD based ICs.
